If you have read the title of this article and you first response is ‘give me a break!’ do not worry: you are in good company. Most of us might consider it completely outlandish for anyone to seriously believe that they can simply use the power of positive thinking (an intangible process) to cause body healing (a tangible condition). But if you really think about it, the power of the mind plays a bigger role in our condition than we might care to acknowledge. Remember that time you sat next to someone in the bus, train or plane, who had a persistent cough or sneeze throughout the journey? Didn’t you unconsciously start to feel a sore throat and fever develop only for a visit to your doctor to end up completely dispelling your fears? In effect, you thought you were ill and unconsciously started to ‘act out’ the symptoms of the illness your thought you suffered from.

Looking at the history of mankind, the power of the mind (often referred to as the spirit or soul in different cultures) has been an integral part of human culture for millennia. In fact, the reliance of an intangible force to propagate healing actually preceded the use of any externally applied or oral medication. Even though great strides have since been made in the field of medicine and human health, the power of applying mind over matter as far as body healing is concerned has remained relevant to this day; and for good reason.

The healing power unleashed by first visualizing body wellness in the mind before it actually takes place is real if the positive effects of placebos is anything to go by. Studies have consistently demonstrated the effect of placebos in unwitting patients solely due to their belief that what they are taking is actually medicine whereas it is a sugary and otherwise harmless substance. The reason for the improvement in their health condition was more because they believed that they would be healed than anything to do with the power of the medication itself. Of course, the best approach is usually to combine both visualization techniques as well as actual medication.

Another classic example of the power of the mind over the body can be demonstrated by what happens to us when we watch different types of movies. Watching either a moving love story or a film with a tragic end (both of these being a play on our though process) leads to the shedding of tears of sadness (a physical effect). Similarly, watching a movie in the horror or thriller genres (again, these work through the visual communication to the mind) sometimes leads to sweating and a faster heartbeat (tangible effects). Of course there is a scientific explanation to all this but it can be summed up in a simple statement: every thought we have triggers a body response, whether an action or a reaction. For instance, a certain visual image triggers a specific thought that then triggers the release of adrenalin release, the ‘fight or flight’ hormone.

Visualization is based on the premise that the sum total of who we really are is actually based on who we think we are. The awareness of our own persona, our realities and our belief systems, is often informed by a series of events that have happened to us or we have witnessed over time. Often, these events are things that have happened to us or statements that we have heard over and over again. Visualization involves the deliberate exertion of positive thought so as to deliberately move our beliefs and realities in a specific predetermined direction. In the context of body healing, repeatedly visualizing healing and other positive thoughts eventually leads to a strong bond between that which is in the mind and what is happening on the body.

For you to realize the healing power from visualization, the first thing you must do is to define your objectives. That is, what specific body condition would you like healed? Next thing you must do is to set aside time each day to reflect on this positive picture. A quiet place would be most ideal. Your visualization must be accompanied by verbal affirmation to ensure you stay on track. Note that you might not see the results immediately. Therefore, do not give up if you do not see any changes after going through the motions for a few days. It might take a number of weeks or months.

This morning I tried something a little different that I learned from Dan John and Dragon Door. It is a simple kettlebell routine to loosen you up and maintain your base of conditioning. I have added this kettlebell regime to my regular morning body weight drills.

  • Joint Mobility Drills
  • Dynamic Warm-up (reverse lunge with twist, side lunge, inch worm, Russian twist, t-push-ups)
  • Bridge x 20 reps
  • Push-ups x 15 reps
  • Bridge x 20 reps
  • Leg Lifts x 15 reps
  • Bird Dog x 20 reps
  • Push-ups x 15 reps
  • Single Leg Bridge x 20 reps per leg
  • Leg Lifts x 10 reps
  • Clam Shells x 20 reps per leg
  • Push-ups x 10
  • Kettlebell Swings x 12 minutes, don’t push the reps too hard if you are going to do these daily. I did 230 total to give you an idea
  • Turkish Get-Ups x 5 minutes total, I didn’t count these
  • Kettlebell Halos x 10 reps
  • Body Weight Depth Squats x 10
  • Hindu Push-ups x 10
  • Depth Squats x 10
  • Halos x 10
  • Depth Squats x 10
  • Hindu Push-ups x 10

As you can see I do a lot of movements so to keep the time short I don’t really rest between exercises. Do your best to keep moving and only stop when you have to.

Well, all the holiday gorging seems to have done my squat well, if not my belly. I don’t recommend you get fat to increase your squat, but it does help.

  • Reverse Band Squat, work up to a heavy single, then add the reverse bands and work up to an absolute max single (don’t be afraid to fail if you have good spotters)
  • Kettlebell Swings 3 x 10, use the heaviest bell possible
  • Decline Weighted Sit-Ups 3 x 10

I didn’t do much accessory work because it took a lot of sets to get to a max single on the band squats. Once those were done we were all pretty burned out.

The single most important concept to understand to be able to Color Hair successfully is Color Theory.71990274  Not one Stylist thinks this and not one Instructor or School  teaches this.  Which I m guessing: explains why there are many unqualified hair Colorists in the USA. My plan is to teach Color Theory more thoroughly here on the Killer Strands Blog, than it has ever been taught before  - - - anywhere. That way you will now have the tools you need – the education at hand, to color your hair successfully. No excuses. If you don’t grasp it at first…remember – repetition breeds education. Just keep repeating it.

The 3 primaries, when mixed in unequal amounts, make brown. If there is more yellow than red or blue, the brown will be light, even beige.  If there is more red than the other 2 primaries, the brown will be warm, and if there is more blue than yellow or red, the brown will be dark and cooler looking.

Complementary colors turn a brown of some shade of either when mixed. When complementary colors are mixed, they create the presence of the 3 primaries in uneven  amounts.

for example:

when yellow mixes with blue + red which equals violet  —  violet – we achieve a shade of brown . . . .the stronger shade will dominate the formula.

All virgin hair is a shade of brown; it contains all 3 primaries. Whether the hair is dark brown with black being the darkest  (the bluest brown, Levels 1-4), auburn (the most warm brown, levels 5 –7), or blonde, ( the most yellow or lightest brown. levels 8-10), the color is an uneven combination of the 3 primary colors.

Equal amounts of yellow + red + blue = black, gray, or platinum  . . . depending on the level.

Extensive Lab tests have actually broken down melanin molecules and in all types of virgin hair, regardless of race, color or texture, unequal amounts of yellow, red and blue are found in each – which of course turns brown.

If you want, or you can simply trust me, you can test this theory very simply… just head down to your local Michaels or Toys R Us purchase some PLAY DOH and with that, hold your own experiments. Mixing the various colors. Mix a little Red and Yellow Play Doh together which will eventually turn out as orange… add a little blue - - yep you  get one shade of brown. In addition - - try all the other variations so you can check out all of these experiments demonstrate that primaries when mixed in uneven amounts equal brown.

BALANCED Color comes when all 3 primaries are present.

I would say one of the biggest and most prolific problems within the hair color world comes from ‘lightening’ and the uneven balance that is just the inevitable result from the imbalance of the 3 colors as color is taken out.  It is learning how to deal with this, which will make you a decent and qualified Colorist.

Try to remember when you are lightening hair color, you are not  really dealing with Brown, you are dealing with DURP (dominant underlying remaining pigment)………….which is reds….oranges….golds…(brass!!)  and yellows.

The first pigment to leave the hair is blue.

If you begin with the blackest most coarse hair and apply bleach to it, the change will occur immediately…blue will again leave the hair quickest and head to the red zone ( also one of the most difficult to leave)….

I still feel that level 7(orange) is the most difficult level to get past ( thus the problems with brassy colors that plague our country – some people worry about politics – me - - I worry about brassy hair and how to rid the country of it!! We all have our priorities! )

Before you can prevent osteoporosis, you need to know what it is. Your bones consist of osteoblasts and osteclasts. Osteoblasts in particular help to keep your bones fresh by destroying older weaker bone, but when the osteoblasts begin working harder than the osteclasts, osteoporosis occurs. Osteoporosis is when your bones get weaker and eventually hollow out, making you susceptible to bone fractures.

Osteoporosis is a disease of bones which makes them weak and more prone to fractures. Anyone can suffer from osteoporosis but it is more common in older women. In osteoporosis bone mineral density is reduced and architecture of the bone is disrupted. Osteoporosis is a disease wherein there is a high risk for bone fracture due to decrease in bone density. Epidemiology shows that females are more vulnerable to osteoporosis than males. Currently, there are over 10 million osteoporosis cases in the US. A very important health care problem which is osteoporosis accounts to over 1.5 million cases of fractures yearly.

Osteoporosis commonly happens when there is an abnormally high bone reabsorption and inability to produce sufficient new bone tissue. Normally, an old bone is reabsorbed and a new bone is produced. Production of a new bone is faster in younger age, especially in children, infants and adolescents. Bone development is slower and leads to lesser density of bone tissues at around age thirty. Later on, bone reabsorption happens when the production is excessive resulting in decrease of bone strength.

Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. Osteoporosis often was thought to be a condition that frail elderly women develop. Osteoporosis leads to literally abnormally porous bone that is more compressible like a sponge, than dense like a brick. This disorder of the skeleton weakens the bone leading to an increase in the risk of breaking bones (bone fracture). A broken bone can really affect a woman’s life. It can cause disability, pain, or loss of independence.

Other causes of osteoporosis are heredity and lifestyle. Whites and Asians, tall and thin women and those with a history of osteoporosis are those at the highest risk of getting osteoporosis. The behavioral causes of increasing the risk of osteoporosis are smoking, alcohol abuse, prolonged inactivity and a diet low in calcium. There are also some diseases that are associated with aging that cause osteoporosis, which include kidney failure, liver disease, cancers, Paget’s disease, endocrine or glandular diseases, gonadal failure and rheumatoid arthritis. There are some medications like steroids, seizure drugs, thyroid hormone and blood thinners that are also found to cause osteoporosis.

Individual circumstances determine which treatment approaches are most appropriate.Calcium and vitamin D The body’s ability to absorb dietary calcium diminishes with advancing age. As well, people tend to drink less milk and consume fewer dairy products, the primary sources of dietary calcium, as they get older. Most adults should take calcium supplements to get 1000 to 1200 milligrams of calcium daily combined with dietary calcium. Though calcium cannot restore bone structure that is already lost to osteoporosis, the bones need abundant calcium simply to maintain bone remodeling. Vitamin D is necessary for the body to absorb calcium.Estrogen Before the 1990s doctors routinely prescribed hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for women going through and women beyond menopause. The prevailing belief was that HRT provided protection for women against Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and osteoporosis. Extensive studies demonstrated that HRT provided no protection for heart disease and in fact increased the risk for some kinds of CVD (notably Stroke) as well as some forms of cancer.
